Geshe Gelek is a fantastic, charming teacher. At at his weekly teachings at the Kadampa Center in North Carolina, the gompa is packed with over 80 students. He has a great sense of humor and a lot of practice in teaching the Dharma to Western students. We are truly fortunate to have him with us for an entire weekend. No matter if you're new to Buddhism or a long-time student, you will learn something from Geshe la. I hope you can join us in welcoming him this weekend.

Saturday, May 29, 2010: "Dharma 24/7"

Location: The Unitarian/Universalist Church, 1625 Wiehle Ave., Reston VA 20190
Time: First teaching: 10:30 AM-12:00 PM followed by a lunch break.
Second teaching: 1:00-2:30 PM

Geshe Gelek is a Tibetan Buddhist lama who speaks English and teaches in a highly practical, accessible way. These teachings will be about integrating the Dharma—the Buddhist teachings on mindfulness, compassion, patience, empathic joy, and so forth—into our everyday lives. Geshe Gelek will discuss how to integrate these practices into our work lives, relationships, and parenting. He'll base these teachings on his combined experiences of first living and studying for many years in a Tibetan monastery in India, and then more recently of living and teaching in North Carolina where he is the resident teacher at Kadampa Center in Raleigh.

Sunday, May 30, 2010: "Tara Practice for Success"

Location: Erika Drive, Manassas, VA 20112 (private residence, doors open for seating at 10:30 am)
Time: 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM followed by a potluck lunch with Geshe Gelek.

Tara is the female archetypal Buddha of active compassion. Buddhists from around the world rely on Tara like a compassionate, enlightened mother. Geshe Gelek is himself a very strong practitioner of Tara. Also, both Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche and Gyumed Khensur Rinpoche have advised that people here in the DC area should rely on Tara practices for the benefit of others, themselves, and for the flourishing of Dharma. Geshe Gelek will lead us in a prayer and meditation on Tara, also giving a teaching on how to rely on Tara practice in daily life for spiritual and personal success.

Please bring a dish to share. Registration strongly suggested: send an email to Rebecca Freeman: spc@guhyasamaja.org

Suggested donation: $25 members, $35 non-members.
