1:00 - 3:00 The Dalai Lamas on Tantra -- An Introduction to Vajrayana
Buddhism
Vajrayana Buddhism--or Buddhist Tantra--is said to be the fastest path
to enlightenment. For those with a greatly compassionate wish to benefit
others, it offers special, unique methods for progressing more quickly
along with path, allowing one to more quickly be of greater benefit to
others. Tantric teachings have generally been kept secret and so are often
misunderstood. Glenn has played a key role over the past three decades
in translating authentic and reliable works on Buddhist Tantra by authors
including the previous Dalai Lamas and Lama Tsongkhapa. In this class,
Glenn will present some key points about entering into and practicing
the Vajrayana path based on works he himself has translated and on his
own studies and practices.
3:30 - 5:00 Essence of Tibetan Yoga -- Introduction to the 6 Yogas
of Naropa
The 6 Yogas of Naropa are have been one of the heart practices of Tibetan
yogis from Marpa (who received the teachings from Naropa himself) and
Milarepa to Lama Tsongkhapa to modern Tibetan yogis. These teachings are
generally kept secret and in some traditions are only taught to those
who wish to engage in lengthy retreats. The 6 Yogas of Naropa include
practices such as Inner Fire, Dream Yoga, Bardo Yoga, Phowa, and so forth.
Glenn has studied the 6 Yogas extensively and translated many important
commentaries on the practice. This afternoon he'll present a fascinating
introduction to this powerful, esoteric Buddhist subject.
